Professor Giovana Perini, a member of the Digital Impoliteness Project, coordinated the development of the Scientific Initiation project carried out by 11th-grade students at Balão Vermelho, a school located in Belo Horizonte (MG, Brazil). The project also benefited from the contribution of Professor Ana Larissa Oliveira, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), who is also a member of the same project.
While analyzing data on online offenses and investigating the possible influence of controversial statements by politicians on users’ behavior online, the students presented a preliminary version of their analyses to the UFMG professor, who provided essential feedback for the continuation and refinement of the study.
According to Professor Giovana, the guidance received enhanced the interpretation of the data and strengthened the group’s argumentation, resulting in a final project praised by the evaluation committee and offering the students a valuable introduction to the scientific research process.
